Vietnam continues to advance initiatives to enhance the effectiveness of the United Nations Human Rights Council

Continuing the journey since 2014 with the Core Group in promoting resolutions on climate change and human rights, Vietnam continues to elevate its standing and operational effectiveness at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in 2025 through practical initiatives, affirming a strong commitment to ensuring the rights of vulnerable groups and sustainable development goals.

Since 2014, Vietnam, together with the Core Group, has annually tabled resolutions on climate change and human rights, focusing on vulnerable groups. In 2016, 2018, and 2022, resolutions spearheaded by Vietnam were all adopted with widespread support. In 2024, at the 56th Session, Resolution 56/8 on "Just Transition," for which Vietnam led the drafting, continued to be adopted with high consensus.

In 2025, at the 59th Regular Session (July 2025), Vietnam and its partners successfully organized an international event on "Transforming food systems for climate resilience" and actively contributed to the adoption of 26 resolutions, including two resolutions proposed by the Core Group in which Vietnam participates. The most notable highlight occurred in October 2025, when Vietnam was officially re-elected as a member of the UNHRC for the 2026-2028 term with 180 votes in favor achieving the highest number of votes among the Asia-Pacific Group.
